Guest Writer Spot

If you’d like to be included in this slot, please get in touch: estherchilton@gmail.com. Poems can be up to 60 lines and prose 2000 words. If you’d like to add a short bio and photo, then great. All I ask is that there’s nothing offensive.

This week’s guest is a valued member of The Writers Bureau’s writing club. She also regularly responds to some of my writing challenges. You may have read some of her witty limericks and stories. Please welcome Janice Johnson (Squirreljan/Jammie’s Jottings) with a striking poem:

My Echo

By

Janice Johnson

My echo steals from me
It follows my thoughts
And puts them into words
Which reverberate around my head
My echo steals from me
It takes things I forget
And reminds me of them daily
Whether I want it to or not
My echo steals from me
It copies things I say
But makes them ten times worse
So I scream for it to stop
My echo steals from me
Kind words and happy thoughts
And pushes them back into my brain
So I can believe that all is not lost

Author Bio

Janice has always written poetry. In fact in junior school at  the age of eight, she wrote one called Peace and was asked to read it out in assembly. This petrified her but she did it. She also writes flash fiction, short stories, articles, and is currently working on a novel (or three). Having recently retired but also moved house, she can’t wait for increased writing time. Her website, Jammie’s Jottings (her great-nieces call her Auntie Jammie) has blogs, articles, poetry, and flash fiction which she plans to add to more regularly.

She is a regular member of Esther’s (Writers Bureau) Let’s Write group.

Comment: ‘Echoes’ make a wistful poem, Janice, thank you for that.
