Susan Batten:
Top security prisoner, Alfie Jowly, is in training for the New York Marathon – virtual version. Here he is, in his cherry-red jumpsuit, out to claim a ribbon as a prizewinner and enjoy riding round Central Park with the mayor in the municipal carriage. We hope that his swollen nose, from an accident with a brickbat, goes down in good time for the celebratory photos. We wish you good luck, Alfie!
Fandango:
She was a prisoner in her own home, each day like running a marathon trying to please him.
She made him a cherry pie but he punched her in the nose. He grabbed his baseball bat and threatened to smash her head in.
She knew she should cut the ribbon and run, but she also knew there was no Prince Charming coming to carry her away in his magical carriage.
Callipygous Capers
One night a prisoner escaped in a bright pink hat, Running as if he was in a marathon being chased by a bat, He gobbled a cherry which tingled his nose, And danced in slippers wearing bright orange clothes! A carriage rolled by with ribbons of blue, and callipygous dancers shouting, 'Yoo-hoo!' They twerked their bottoms as they sang to the moon, Sneezing out confetti while whistling a tune! Aptivi’s Joyful Corner:
The Active Prisoner
In a big prison, there was a prisoner who loves being active. His carriage is perfect, and he’s able to take deep breaths with his nose. He can even hit the ball, which has a size of cherry, in a perfect aim with his bat. He was also very skilled when it comes to marathon races. While prisoners get to know each other outside, he still runs and breaks ribbons.
Janice JJ:
It was Cherry Nose Day at the Old Bath Biddies Club. Belinda’s gang stuck large plastic cherry noses on before climbing into a horse-drawn carriage. Excited, they arrived in style at the Vampire Bat pub, tied the landlord to a chair with ribbons and held everyone prisoner in an unplanned lock-in, until their marathon quiz had finished, and they’d raised £500. OBBC membership has now risen from four to twenty.
Am I a prisoner of pride? Will my life be in peril if I continue this marathon searching for some kind of blue ribbon suggesting my bat shit crazy ideas will pump fresh air in your nose? The carriage is all plastic and waterproof with an electronic gizmo designed to trigger a small release of cherry scented oil into your nostrils. What do you want for nothing, a rubber biscuit?
On Halloween Night I literally saw a bat fly a marathon with a cherry on its nose while I was riding in a carriage with a ribbon around its neck trying not to be a prisoner.
Rall:
it’s a very busy life and on the nose
running around like a bat out of hell
love and marriage go together like a horse and carriage
yeah sure if you like running daily marathons
the cherry on the cake being a prisoner of drudgery and domesticity
you don’t even get a ribbon when you cross the finish line
Halloween Scare
At dawn, a horse-drawn carriage stopped at the dilapidated mansion across the street.
Out stepped a woman with a cherry-colored ribbon wound through her hair. What the heck?!
Tired of being a prisoner of an all-night Halloween Movie Marathon, I watched her with my nose pressed to the window.
KA-BANG! A bat slammed the glass at my face!
That’s when, I startled awake to “The Exorcist” theme with popcorn everywhere.
Nan’s cherry pie had one more than one first prize ribbon at the village fete.
It would tantalise anyone’s nose with the aroma of melting pastry and succulent fruit.
Gramfer said it was food for marathons as she batted away compliments and put her latest trophy beside the carriage clock on the mantelpiece.
He held her prisoner in his embrace, knowing she had captured his heart years before.
The prisoner of the Pirate’s Bat Cave on Marathon Key earned a first-place ribbon in the pin, the cherry on Rudolf’s nose contest. As part of his prize, he was allowed to polish the king’s carriage wheels but not ride.
Life is a marathon not a sundae. There’s no cherry on top.
It’s a race worth running and there’s no time to stop.
If you could ride in a horse-drawn carriage with a ribbon in your hair,
would you be the kind to lift your dainty nose into the air?
I’d rather be a prisoner in a cage with a bat
than run life as a race with a rat.
Murray Clarke:
Smudge and Bruiser sat nose to nose across the table discussing the daring escape plan. The prisoners had volunteered to organise everything, and Grimes, the Prison Warden, had agreed not to bat an eyelid. The cherry on the top was that, once the ribbons had been tied together, they would climb out of the window, join a passing marathon, and then hide in an empty railway carriage before disappearing!
Vacant train, an empty carriage
Vacant thoughts proposing marriage
Look at me. I’ll look at you
Both knowing what we want to do
Break your cherry. Cut your ribbon
This little dance will be forgiven
Our beating hearts will never tire
Prisoners of our desire
A gentle walz, a tactile chat?
Sweetheart, call me up to bat
A marathon? I’m good at those
I’ll win. But only by a nose
Wilf Leahy:
The prisoner won the marathon. As he ran through the ribbon he grabbed a cherry drink and a bat. Hitting the guard on the nose, he jumped in the carriage and was gone.
“I am not a prisoner, I am a free man!” said No. Seven.
“My typewriter has broken! Both the carriage and the ribbon have melted!” wailed No. One.
Barry Bat, chewing upon a cheery cherry, kept his thoughts to himself.
And in the Solar System, all planets being made of chocolate, the Planet Mars turned into the Planet Marathon.
It was going to be another funny Thursday in Challenge Land.
A story was told of the old days, that happened in Marathon Texas. As a prisoner carriage was traveling the open land toward Huntsville Prison, a bat flew at the horses, biting one’s nose. It left a cherry colored bump. Continuing on their way down the ribbon of dusty trail to their destination, they took the injured horse to the vet. He was found to be okay, no rabies detected.
Lou By The Sea:
The Bet
Agoraphobia held me prisoner for 30 years until my mate Pete bet me his cherry red Ferrari that I wouldn’t run the London marathon. “You’re on!” I trained so hard . The big day came. I ran like a bat out of hell (thought I’d be gone when the morning comes) but I won by a nose at the finish ribbon. Pete revved his Ferrari, shouting “Your carriage awaits my friend.”
Ann Edall-Robson:
The brain went amuck with this one. Almost 200 words written before the echo of 70 words, 70 words bounced off the inner chamber of thoughts. So, here’s the slashed version.
An oak bat with blood stains. A yellow ribbon tied around it. An address. The Detective goes to Cherry Lane to nose around. An elderly couple living in a carriage house tells their story.
The man had been a prisoner. The bat and ribbon, a message from his wife. Then it disappeared. The blood? Cherry juice from crushing the fruit.
Technology proved it. Solving this cold case was no marathon.
Road To Freedom
Escaping the castle felt like running a grueling marathon. The prisoner ate a sweet wild cherry for energy and wiped sweat and blood from his nose. A classic wooden carriage stood in the moonlight. A startled bat fluttered out from the old belfry as the prisoner scrambled inside the carriage. Pulling a red silk ribbon, he secured the door. The road stretched out ahead; freedom was finally within his grasp.
