Laughing Along With A Limerick

Happy Monday. Here’s a new limerick challenge for you. Your word this week is

CHEW

The previous word was FIRST. Here are your limericks:

Rall:

she would have liked to come first
but couldn’t control her strong thirst
she drank so much water
it blocked her aorta
her confidence shattered did burst

Aptivi’s Joyful Corner:

a healthy man went to a bike race
he tried hard to speed to the first place
but he lost his grip
and fell flat on trip
now he will finish last in the race

Dawgy Daddy Responds:

I didn't expect the memory to hurt this much
But it stings so bad without your loving touch
First off, I know I continually let you down
Which brought a fight with too many rounds
All brought on by liquor being my false crutch

Graeme Sandford:

The first line was having a laugh,
the second was stuck in the bath;
the third was a Dick,
and the fourth became sick,
but the fifth was a lofty giraffe.

Frank Hubeny:

Second, First, Then What?

And so first I will try not to care
if second comes next or somewhere
perhaps after that third
who’s out chasing some bird
while the word that I chase rhymes with “there”.

Susan Batten:

At the tomb site he had to be first,
though he’d heard desecrators were cursed.
He hacked in through the wall –
then stones started to fall –
Death or glory? Prepare for the worst!

Dog Paddling Through Life:

The first thing I saw when I woke
was that my computer desk broke,
no doubt by a cat.
Did I sleep through that?
This must be some kind of a joke!

Dan Ince:

One of those days when I’m cursed
Even arriving here first
Open the door!
Please, I implore!
My bladder is fit to burst!

Murray Clarke:

Did I ever tell you I once had a thirst
For running a race and coming first?
I trained all day
Eating nothing but hay
And ended up performing worst!

Keith Edgar Channing:

First line is the best place to start
I really should take that to heart
Rushing headlong to third
Seems a little absurd.
Truth be told, it’s the way I do art.

The Limerick Guy:

If I’d autobiograpically define
The wild adventurous life that is mine,
It’s an overflowing cup
And “I can’t make this stuff up”
Would have to be the first line!

At the racetrack, it’s best to come first.
But in the bedroom, first is the worst.
She’ll think you’re a dud
And your career as a stud…
Let’s just say, that bubble will burst!

Pictures Imperfect Blog:

The one about the super mum

There once were sextuplets who all were nursed
By their very own mother who suffered from thirst
after this very exhausting chore.
She emptied a bottle and then some more,
Turned to her brood and yelled: “So, who’s on first?”

Fandango:

The Contest

A beer drinker who had a great thirst
Entered a contest hoping to come in first
He was doing quite well
But then it all went to hell
When suddenly his appendix burst

The Afterlove Voice:

There once was a woman who came first,
Whose need for her coffee was cursed.
She raced for the prize,
With fire in her eyes—
But reached for the coffee mug first!

Cathy Cade:

On The Road

For many years now I have nursed
a hunger to travel – a thirst
to motor all night
until morning’s light.
But I must pass my driving test first.

Ruth Blogs Here:

Take It Back...

Don’t blurt out your first thoughts on a whim
Though your mind may feel full to the brim
Take it back from the brink
Be more cautious and think
A more measured approach is less grim

Writer Ravenclaw:

Colours Of Blue

To have a good run in the race
Fiona painted her face
war colours of blue
and ribbons so new
she won her medal for first place.

John W. Howell:

There once was a man with a thirst,
Who’s bladder was all set to burst
He drank so much water.
He thought that he otter,
Have located the men’s room first.

Pensitivity101:

She stood tall in her place
Pride written all over her face.
Her heart fit to burst
For coming in first
In the junior three legged race!

Peter Bouchier:

Autumn Trophy

The earth is taking
revenge on people with luxury problems
who eventually destroy more
and more nature
with all their systems.

*

Mother Earth is taking revenge
on people trying to quench
their endless thirst
for luxury first
comfortably claiming their bench.

Lou by the Sea:

Oops!

My cousin’s always the first; It’s such a bore
Like it’s compulsory, or even the law
Whether romance or games
It’s always the same
Oops! I tripped him, as he ran first through the door

poetisinta:

Anybody There?

There once was a skeleton with some flar,
Who first clicked ‘Join’ then froze in mid-air.
His ribs they cracked,
And his jaw did clack,
Then with a a scare he dropped into his chair.

He waved his bony hand in despair,
When he found there wasn’t a soul there.
There was not a sound,
The Wi-Fi’s six feet underground,
Still, ‘hello? anybody there?’

Richmond Road:

I assure you I’d never rehearsed
And clearly I wasn’t her first
But I withstood the test
Though I wasn’t her best
She assured me I wasn’t her worst.

John McGuiggan:

Cone all ye Scottish vegans, an’ yer kilted vegetarians
Wi yer lentil porridge an’ yer sporran full au carrots, sustainable, organic an’ gluten-free
Come ye to Dalry Road, ter the fist coast ter see Scots feasting on meats ‘till they die young, – but happy
Weep at the intestinal haggis an’ the chicken liver curry,
greet at the mutton and mussels suet pudding,
wail at the ham hock an’ the slice of a highland doric beast called Angus
Happy are the First Coast diners
Feasting on meats, maybe they’ll die young – but happy
While ye, ye lentileers
Live yer joyless hundred years.

Rohini
:

First Things First: Tea

My first thought each morning is “tea,”
My second is “where can it be?”
By the time I have four,
I’m awake enough to soar,
And ready to face the day with glee.

The Elephant’s Trunk:

Oh Snap!

A vain runner swore he’d win in a burst
But his luck went from worse to the worst
Then he tripped on a stone
Which snapped through his bone
And he crossed the finish line head first!

Olaf Sturlasson’s Poetry Corner:

An old woman who feared the worst
When one of her pipes it did burst
Was very relieved
When first she received
Word that she was not indeed cursed

Sexagenarian Scribbler:

Our first time we’ll always remember
On the thirty first of December
When two became one
A new year begun
Our first born arrived in September!

The old Biddy from Bath loved to chew

Jelly beans as long as they were blue

She spat out greens and reds

White ones she tore to shreds

    But yellows were wholly taboo

When he proffered a sweetmeat mysterious.
    ’twas exhausting to chew,
Had a taste just like glue
And effects that are quite deleterious.

    Hello Esther,

Here’s a limerick for you. Apologies.

They told him, ‘be careful to chew’, but he never believed it was true, so he gulped it all down, quite the fastest in town, and then hurried away to the loo.

    Have a great week!

  15. Hi Esther!

Great word to work with! This is what I came up with for this one:

    An alien gathered a few

    Humans of which to chew

    It gave one a wallop

    Down in one gollop

Then hurriedly spat out a shoe
