Happy Thursday! Want a new story challenge? Well, here you go:
Can you tell a story in 20 words? You must use the following words somewhere in the story:
- MOLE
- JAM
- KIDNEY
Last week’s prompt was to tell a story in 40 words using the following four words in it somewhere:
- MURDER
- CASSETTE
- TEAR
- RICE
Here are your fantastic stories:
“This tape will self-destruct…”
The cassette flashed then smoldered.
Who would murder the diplomat? There wasn’t a tear at the funeral, so could be anyone.
The radioactive rice pointed to the Russians, but…
I won’t chose to accept this one…
The Wedding
As the bride and groom emerged, the guests threw rice as they headed to the car. A murder of crows flew overhead, as a tear slipped down her face. Ignoring them, she plugged in the cassette and drove.
The sound of rice pouring from the tear in the bag reminded him of his first job, and the music that had played on the vintage cassette player. It was probably the simplest of any murder contact he had taken.
Blood found on the cassette. Definitely the murder weapon. What had gone wrong between the perfect wedding ceremony, bride in tears and the police examining the hotel room, the groom lying in a pool of blood mingled with grains of rice?
All she could manage to eat was rice cakes. She’d listen to audiobooks on our old cassette recorder, she loved Midsomer Murders. Then, nearing the end, I would sing to her, hoping she could hear me. ‘Tears on my pillow…’
