Laughing Along With A Limerick

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend whatever you did. Here’s a new limerick prompt for you. Your word this week is

WORKS

The previous word was HIP. Here are your limericks:

Rall:

when she was young she was hip
her life was a fantabulous trip
but old age eventually struck
like being hit by a truck
and now she can’t run or do flips

Aptivi’s Joyful Corner:

The Mud

a working slob was running on a long pathway,
he didn’t see a mud coming his way,
so he took a dip
and fell to his hip,
now, he has to scrub the mud away!

Sillyfrog’s Blog:

Mind Your Sass

For fear of falling and breaking a hip,
Elders won’t ‘give chase’ not wanting to trip.
But don’t forget that a cane,
Can produce noggin pain.
You’re still not safe to give them any ‘lip’.

Dawgy Daddy Responds:

Buy all the candy early, that you think you will need
Halloween is coming and monsters will want to feed
You open the creaking door, little witches standing there
The boogieman looks up and says, "it's hip to be square"
You throw him the candy and shut the door with speed

Graeme Sandford:

There once was a man loved his hip-hop,
every night he would rap in the chip-shop,
“Yo momma don’t dance,
and yo papa won’t prance,
and yo horse is just bustin’ the clip-clop!”

Frank Hubeny:

Hip Limerick

Though I try very hard to be hip
giving others an earful of lip,
my mouth runs way too fast
and the words sadly last
when I should have just bitten my lip.

Susan Batten:

Betty felt such a fool with her “hip” –
she was sad that she couldn’t let rip.
Then she went to the shop
and met old Bertie Hop,
and the two tackled life with new zip!

Cee Tee Jackson:

A Booked Celebration

I checked the reports yesterday
And much to my utter dismay,
When I took a quick look,
I’d sold only one book
Well, it’s a start … hip-hip-hooray!

Writer Ravenclaw:

Roses

When trying to look hip
Alice gave the queen a tip
Do not paint flowers red
Your roses will be dead
She said with a wobbling lip.

Dan Ince:

Daddy Uncool

To the jacuzzi I strut, so hip
“Sup kids! You up for a dip?”
I slip on the grass
Flat on my arse
My cred… set sail like a ship

Murray Clarke:

My trendy new clothes make me look really hip!
I've even purchased a sports car from the local dealership.
Now, I must say,
I feel it in my boneses
That, finally, I'm keeping up with the Joneses!
But as I've no money left for kids - I'm resigned to having "the snip"'

Fandango:

The Trippn’ Hippie

There once was a hippie named skip
Took some LSD ‘cause he wanted to trip
He got so high he thought he could fly
Went up to roof and jumped in the sky
Fell straight to the ground and shattered his hip

Cathy Cade:

Skip-to-the-loo

A veteran once-hippy chick
Liked to dance to her retro music.
She twirled to Big Bopper
But soon came a cropper
And tripped on her walking stick.

The Limerick Guy:

I’d like to think that I’m hip,
Cool and clever and quick with a quip,
But this baby boomer
With an “odd” sense of humor…
In the millennial world, I’m a drip.

John W. Howell:

There once was a man named Zip,
Who gave most people some lip
One day there was a stop,
By an angry looking cop.
No lip from Zip seeing a gun on his hip

Pensitivity101:

He accused her of being too hip,
That her humour stung like a whip,
So she took a good swing
Which landed with a zing
And her boyfriend had a fat lip!

Lou by the Sea:

HIP 1

I get down with the kids, say I’m hip, trendy and cool
They laugh, and tell me to go to old pensioners school
These words are redundant
For the young person, what’s abundant
Is brain rot and rizz! I’m the object of ridicule

HIP 2

The Old Biddy from Bath, made me laugh, when she replaced her hip
What did she use, I had to muse – old bits she found from the tip?
A discarded golf ball
Star of the trawl
Stuck together with a china cup, found in her neighbour’s skip
Kim Smyth:

A fall a few months ago busted my lip
At my tender age, it’s great I didn’t break a hip
Blacked one eye
Wrist hurt, oh my
All due to a misstep then a trip!

Rohini:

Shimmy And Spin

A dancer who thought she was slick
Would shimmy and wiggle her hip.
She’d spin on her toes,
Strike a pose, and then go,
Till the crowd cheered, “Oh, what a trick!”

poetisinta:

Rootin' Shootin' Cowboy

There once was a cowboy so slick,
With a gun slung low on his hip,
He took aim at a crow,
But shot his big toe,
Now he limps with rather an odd skip!

The Afterlove Voice:

The 90s Never Left!

There once was a lady so hip,
Who danced to a nineties hit clip.
She shouted, “I’m young!”
As the chorus was sung—
Then reached for her coffee to sip!

The Bag Lady:

Joe really wanted to be hip
Grew a mustache over his lip
The attempt was futile
Hair grew over a mile
The worst was, couldn’t see his smile

Mark Fraidenburg:

A granny with sass in her hip
Gave ballroom conventions the slip.
She spun with such flair
That her wig caught the air
And sailed like a miniature ship.

Brazanne Muse:

Replacements

Long gone are her days to be hip
When life was a gulp not a sip
Up-to-date her most bought
Always new things were sought
Her crave now is for lots of kip

Therapy Bits:

Hip, Hip, Hooray!

There once was a duck from Bombay
Who decided to learn ballet
He spun on his beak
Then fell in a creek
And the frogs cheered…hip, hip hurray!

Teleportingweena:

A cool kitty called Gypsy the Hip
Was known to now and again take a nip
She’d roll and purr
And get it all in her fur
All because catnip made her flip

***

A fiesty dog called Pip
Would wiggle and waggle his hip
His tail would swish
For his supper in the dish
And he’d dance and happily yip

Olaf Sturlasson’s Poetry Corner:

An old man with a troublesome hip
That was always giving him gyp
Ended up on the floor
As he walked through the door
When his hip gave and caused him to slip

The Elephant’s Trunk:

Be Cool, Daddy-O

there once was a beatnik named Trip
whose shades and whose bongos were hip
he snapped to the beat
on a Greenwich Village street
and told all the squares to keep zip

Treehugger:

He sneakily took a sip,
From a flask concealed on his hip.
Sadly, to his demise,
And took our great surprise,
He bent over and attempted a back flip.

Sexagenarian Scribbler:

Back in the sixties when I was hip
How I loved to go on a trip
I’d be in ecstasy
On LSD
But coming down was one hell of a dip

    Hello Esther,

Here’s your limerick, a bit irreverent, but there you are:

When Tom Randy went off down to Berks, he abandoned his job at the Works but he toiled to and fro as a keen gigolo, saying factories were only for jerks.

Have a good week! Best, Susan

The old Biddy from Bath wanted a tattoo

But quite where and what she didn’t have a clue

Just give me the full works

She smiles and winks and smirks

Her bum got the bare necessities with a picture of Baloo

    Just do it

Whatever works in life, just do it

My motto for life is a good fit

    Don’t ponder, just do

    Sound advice for you

You’ll enjoy life more little bit by bit

  5. Men don’t get to heaven by being jerks
Women don’t either, not by their works
    Do good cause you should
    Pray often and for good
Maybe then you’ll sail through the gate by some quirk!

  6. By Their Works

All these works are the fruit. You can tell
if it’s heavenly earth or dark hell.
When you shop, stop to see
if the fruit of the tree
is a work only devils would sell.

  15. After meeting a French friend again after a few years yesterday, this came natural:

    https://picturesimperfectblog.com/2026/10/19/the-one-lost-in-cultural-exchanges/

There once was a Frenchman living in Edinburghs.
(The added S was one of his many quirks.)
    He annoyed the locals
    With his mangled vocals.
So he ended up as a beautiful “curpse”.

  18. Hi Esther!

This is what I ended up with today:

    —

    When the Nappy Is Full

There’s a job above all that he shirks

And there’s always a dodge in the works…

    When out calls his lady

    “Your turn with the baby!”

He hides in the bathroom and smirks!
