Laughing Along With A Limerick

Here’s to a great week and here’s a new limerick challenge for you. Your word this week is

TASK

The previous word was CHEW. Here are your limericks:

Rall:

it is hard to chew

when you have the flu

especially when you don’t have teeth

and also problems with your feet

getting old gives you the blues

Squirreljan:

The old Biddy from Bath loved to chew
Jelly beans as long as they were blue
She spat out greens and reds
White ones she tore to shreds
But yellows were wholly taboo

Aptivi’s Joyful Corner:

Chewing Gum

he started chewing gum in class
while being a guy full of sass
he popped the big bubble
and got in some trouble
now he learned that it was crass

Sillyfrog’s Blog:

Doctor’s Orders

Large Marge was having some trouble to chew.
Called a doctor for an emergency review.
He said open wide.
Then sat by her side,
Saying, “You should start cutting your pork chops in ‘two’.”

Dawgy Daddy Responds:

Today I use these words to make a roux
Something new and tasty for you to chew
With no direction my brain silently cries
Not my best answer but I'll give it a try
If you don't like it, well boo-hoo-hoo

Graeme Sandford:

There once was a dog liked to chew,
He chewed up a folding canoe,
it no longer did float,
for what floats your boat
is likely to sink when in two.

Frank Hubeny:

Chew On This Limerick

When I chew I knew you would chew, too,
as the two of us do what we do.
Which is what? I don’t know.
May we do it all though
as we chew on this limerick, too.

Susan Batten:

They told him, ‘be careful to chew’,
but he never believed it was true,
so he gulped it all down,
quite the fastest in town,
and then hurried away to the loo.

Dan Ince:

Snack Time!

An alien gathered a few
Humans of which to chew
It gave one a wallop
Down in one gollop
Then hurriedly spat out a shoe

Murray Clarke:

My darling dog is called Bertie - he's a gorgeous cockapoo.
He loves nothing better than a bone on which to chew.
He's brown, white and silky
And likes his tea milky!
That's all I've got to say, today. Merci beaucoup!

Keith Edgar Channing:

My pastry chef seemed to be serious,
When he proffered a sweetmeat mysterious.
’twas exhausting to chew,
Had a taste just like glue
And effects that are quite deleterious.

The Limerick Guy:

Biting off more than you can chew
Is something you shouldn’t do
Your projects will suffer
From no overload buffer…
And it’s going to catch up with you.

K Morris Poet:

I know a young lady named Lou
Who likes to chew on a shoe.
Some have a fetish
To chew on a lettuce,
But Lou she chews on a shoe!

Pictures Imperfect Blog:

The One About The Dentures
There once was an old man who couldn’t chew.
So he lived on porridge and beef broth and goo.
But he wanted a treat,
He hankered for meat
Rather than baby food, wouldn’t you?

Fandango:

My Dog Lou

There once was a dog named Lou
Who’d chew on a slipper or two
He’d chewed up the sole
Then threw up in a bowl
While his owner sighed, “What can I do?”

The Afterlove Voice:

There once was a dog who would chew,
Every slipper and favourite shoe.
When asked, “Was that you?”
She said, “Haven’t a clue!”
While the shoelace still hung from her chew!

Cee Tee Jackson:

You'll Get More Than Hiccups

The young man was a very quick eater,
But one teatime he started to teeter.
His face changed in hue,
(He knew he should chew)
But he choked & he died, did Blue Peter.

Cathy Cade:

Aversion Therapy

We rehomed an unwanted hound
who’d chew any shoes left around.
Rubbing slippers with chilli
disguised with Caerphilly
soon put him off slippers, we found.

John W. Howell:

Someone from Timbuktu
Didn’t have much to do.
So he sat on a chair,
With his feet in the air,
And engaged in a jerky chew

Pensitivity101:

Two eyes of sapphire blue
Watched the dog contentedly chew:
Trying hard not to giggle
As he started to wriggle
When she tried to retrieve her Dad’s shoe.

Lou by the Sea:

My Cow

My cow has three stomachs. She really needs to chew
Let’s face it, there’s not a lot else she can do
Grinding her teeth
Exercising that beef
And then it comes out as a big splat of poo!

Kim Smyth:

Bubble gum is what I like to chew
But never do I want it on my shoe
It goes in your mouth
But never down south
That’s for sandals and tennis shoes!

poetisinta:

Clumsy Chewie

There once was a Wookie named Chewie,
Whose piloting skills were quite screwy,
He'd roar at the stars,
The crash into Mars,
And after just rumbled, 'Oh phooey!'

Teleportingweena:

Boo hoo – boo hoo said Sue the cow
Whatever will I ever do now?
Her cud she should chew
Of this she surely knew
But all she could do was moo now.

Sexagenarian Scribbler:

How our new puppy just loves to chew
Absolutely anything will do
A precious ring he ate
I just had to wait
Until he’d done a number two!

Pete Springer:

I looked out the window and spotted an emu
Stranger than that, he started to moo.
My eyes deceive me, hallucinating for sure,
Went to the doctor, there must be a cure.
He poked and prodded, but he has no clue.

Treehugger:

My face is all askew,
I am finding it hard to chew,
My chewing gum is stuck,
Whether I poke it or I suck,
It’s stuck to my teeth like glue.

Annette Rochelle Aben:

Unsuitable

Chew on it for a while

That phrase always made her smile

It was her father’s go-to

When she couldn’t sit through

His lectures about her clothing style

The Elephant's Trunk:

Feeding Time

A cantankerous old goat at the zoo
Fancied eating a crisp leather shoe.
He gave it a try
Then did angrily cry ….
“N-a-a-h! It’s a smelly and disgusting old chew!”

John McGuiggan:

Easter Bunnies with their chocolate ears
No resurrection will assuage their fears
Before Easter day is past
Some Christian sod
Will scoff their ears and chew their arse

Blind Wilderness
:

A man who had gum to chew
Suddenly wanted a brew
He took the gum out
Then wandered about
Then gave the gum to Drew

Olaf Sturlasson's Poetry Corner:

A young man who would constantly chew
Until in the face he was blue
Found he could not stop
'Til his jaw; it went pop
And he needed to fix it with glue

On the sunlit upland I’d prefer to bask
And sip g and t from my fancy hip flask
Instead my master, the Dragon Lord
Has asked me to count his treasured hoard
And that – believe me – is a never-ending task!

  2. Mondays are full of tasks to do
    Window washing, laundry too
    Supper to cook
    No time for a book
And an errand to run, boo Hoo!

    Hello Esther,

Here’s a Monday limerick for you:

The task for today wasn’t clear. It would wobble – and then disappear, so this wavering task in its shimmering mask could be safely ignored, never fear.

    Have a good week! Susan

  5. Wonderful Task

Oh, the task that I got that fine day
was so wonderful all I could say,
    “Is this really for me?”
Yes it is! Now, we’ll see
if you’ll do it or go off and play.

There once was a man who liked to bask
In the sun and didn’t attend to his given task
To guard the money of Scarface Capone.
Next thing he knew it was all gone.
Now he only leaves home with a mask.

I’m looking forward to reading the others – since there are not that many rhymes for “task” the same words will be used in many of the limericks.

  10. Of course, I forgot that that the given word doesn’t have to be the rhyming word. 🙄 I enjoyed the others nevertheless.

  11. Hi Esther!

Here’s my limerick for the day:

I’m sorry and hate to bug

But your dog has soiled the rug

    So go grab a mask

    Do the grisly task

And clean up after your pug!

    Tasked with inflating balloons,
    I expected to finish soon.
    But, sure enough,
    I ran out of puff
    and was gasping all afternoon.

    TASK

Joe the handyman loved an usual task

A job came in, but big questions he must not ask

    So he stole a tank

    And bashed into the bank

Now, with his cut, happy in the sun he will bask

  16. I don’t miss the days of the mask
To be donned before starting a task
Now my whole face is free
For the whole world to see
But if you want me to hide it, just ask.
