Can You Tell A Story In…

It’s great to be back with a new story challenge. This week, can you tell a story in 38 words using the following words in it somewhere:

  • BREECHES
  • TITTLE-TATTLE
  • SPACESHIP
  • YOGA

The previous challenge was to write a story in 75 words using the following seven words in it somewhere:

  • COFFEE
  • LAMBORGHINI
  • EYEBROW
  • TRADITION
  • CHIPS
  • SOCKS
  • MATHS

Here are your fantastic stories:

John D. Ottini:

I slowly rolled my Lamborghini up to the Starbucks drive thru window and orderd a cup of coffee. The barista’s eyebrow rose as he handed me the coffee and said, “Sweet ride, Mister.”

As part of my Saturday tradition I drove up to Lake Maths and parked along the shoreline. Looking to the sky, I whispered a prayer of thanks  for helping me pull up my socks when my chips were down last week. Amen!

Graeme Sandford:

Ellie raised an eyebrow at “Chips” Sotherby’s ride, a gleaming red Lamborghini Revuelto, all glamour and no fuel economy whatsoever.

“If you bring that coffee within ten yards of my beauty—“ “Chips” left the threat hanging.

Ellie ditched the coffee.

Tradition had it that cheap mustard-coloured socks didn’t match with expensive scarlet Lambos.

“How come you have excellent taste in cars, but such a hideous dress sense.” Ellie asked.

His response, “You do the maths.”

poetisinta:

The Motoring Gnome

A gnome bought a Lamborghini bright,

He zoomed through valleys under starlight,

He had coffee and chips wearing green socks,

His eyebrows bristled just like a fox,

He used maths to map routes across the land,

Tradition says singing makes journeys grand,

The tiny gnome laughed inside his fine car,

Drove past his friends at the wine bar,

Gnomes and fairies cheered him on his way,

He would definitely be back – one sunny day!

Murray Clarke:

It’s a well-known tradition, handed down over the generations in south-east Italy, that every new bride should consume a bag of chips eaten from their future mother-in-law’s shoes. As you would expect, this has raised a few eyebrows. One filthy rich landowner, Giuseppe, was so shocked that he crashed his bright red Lamborghini and subsequently spilt scalding coffee all down his waistcoat. It was never going to be a good idea – you do the Maths!

Fandango:

Anthony nursed his coffee in the lush leather seat of his Lamborghini. Rain sliced the alley into crooked fractions like bad math.

One eyebrow twitched, a tick when he was nervous.

Family tradition said he should’ve been somewhere warm, somewhere honest, not here with mismatched socks and a pocket full of stale chips. But he had a job to do and he knew that when he did it, it wasn’t going to be very pretty.

Crystal:

After putting on my socks and eating some chips I drank my coffee while doing my one eyebrow, then after doing all of of my maths that I can think of, I drove my brand new Lamborghini like it was a tradition, a brand new tradition for me, then I came home and ate more chips.

The Afterlove Voice:

After maths class, Grandpa insisted on our Friday tradition: coffee, chips, and stories.

A gleaming Lamborghini parked outside raised every eyebrow in the café.

The driver stepped out wearing mismatched socks, smiled, and quietly paid everyone’s bill before disappearing.

Grandpa chuckled. “Never judge wealth by appearances,” he said.

We finished our coffee, shared another basket of chips, and carried that lesson home, remembering kindness always outshines expensive cars.

Rall:

she raised an eyebrow

the maths teacher

was wearing odd socks again

upholding the tradition of a being a nerd

he sipped at his coffee

eating his chips

and she often wondered

how he could possibly afford

to drive a lamborghini

of course she would never ask

Rohini:

The Lamborghini Equation

Grandma insisted it was tradition to solve maths before coffee. I cheated by counting chips instead. She raised one eyebrow, confiscated my lucky socks, and declared me academically undercooked. Just then a Lamborghini roared past. “See?” she sighed. “That’s what happens when people skip arithmetic.” The driver stopped, rolled down the window, and asked, “Excuse me…what’s seven times eight?” Grandma smiled like she’d just won the Olympics.

Pensitivity101:

Alec was drinking coffee from his Lamborghini mug. It was tradition that everyone had their own mug and his daughter bought him this one when she was eleven. It had two chips in the rim, but he wouldn’t part with it. Hers was the Lady Penelope Rolls, but then what else would it be!

He was marking some Maths homework for his students and raised an eyebrow when he noticed he was wearing odd socks.

Teleportingweena:

Scott put on lucky green socks, dressed and went out to get a coffee from the nearest shop. Coming out, holding the cup and a bag of chips, a flashy Lamborghini, driven by a lovely lady drove by. She smiled and raised an eyebrow in a flirty way. Traditionally the maths adds up that this is a come on and he  should follow her. He won’t say any more, except she knocked his socks off.

Susan Batten:

The maths students gathered outside the faculty for their rag tradition of drinking coffee and eating chips in their socks (and nothing else). This scene raised a general laugh but also raised some eyebrows when the new Principal roared up in his pink Lamborghini and screeched to a halt. He, too, was ready to enjoy coffee in the buff with his matching pink football socks. His Afghan hound, Panache, looked on, but made no comment.

John W. Howell:

As a maths professor, I maintain my own tradition. It includes the wearing of no socks, eating chips with coffee, and raising an eyebrow or two speeding through campus in my red Lamborghini. Too bad for the school that I am tenured.

A Jeanne in the Kitchen:

After her morning coffee, she did her maths and thought now was the time. She decided to throw tradition to the wind and wanted to live dangerously. She gathered her chips, raised her eyebrows and off she went, headed for the Lamborghini in nothing but her multi-colored socks. She was flying to the stars.

Richmond Road:

Poetry to the lips
Mum’s fish and chips
Sundays – a family tradition
Sisters and brothers
Numerous others
Make it a regular mission
In Lamborghini, my uncle
In such a coffunkle
Arrives wearing only his socks
But once he’s had coffee
Sweetened with toffee
He’s normal again and he rocks
Raises an eyebrow
A habit. He knows how
to do maths – knows that he’s running late
Says, “give me a chance
to put on some pants
then put some of that on my plate.”

iMartist:

Infatuation

Kate is failing her Maths at Wellington because of her infatuation with bad boy Derek.

While pecking away at some traditional fish & chips in the student lounge, she daydreams about being Derek’s girlfriend instead of studying.

Derek is the only student at school who drives a vintage 1966 Bright Green Lamborghini Miura.

Derek is the kind of guy who sports argyle socks, prefers to drink black coffee over tea & his eyebrow is pierced 8 times.

Lily’s Corner:

Financial Advisor

I was going to be late, so I thought I’d multitask and drink my coffee, eat my chips, and draw in my eyebrow. I was taking a big risk because tradition says, ‘Don’t let anyone with bad eyebrows tell you anything about life.’ Success! I can still give people financial advice and plans.
I put on my favourite green maths socks and slipped on my shoes as I thought about purchasing a Lamborghini. Should I?

Pictures Imperfect Blog:

A True Story of Sleep, Interrupted

My neighbour – the one that lives above me – parks his Lamborghini directly below me. When he leaves before I had my first coffee, I fall out of bed. It’s a tradition by now. I’ve tried stuffing socks in my ears. I’ve tried to bribe him with chips and beer. All I got was a raised eyebrow (singular!) and an explanation of the maths that made it possible for him to drive that car. Grrrrrrowllll!

Ann Edall-Robson:

The weekly coffee shop tradition included chips and gossipy chatter ranging from that person wearing socks with crocs, to the best place to get an eyebrow waxing. Today’s conversation moved toward the Maths Professor. He’d been seen driving a sporty Lamborghini with a classy lady by his side. How could he afford that car? Who was the woman?

A male voice broke into the conversation. “It belongs to the classy lady… My Mother.” Silence reigned.

Blind Wilderness:

They sat in their car eating chips as was the tradition on a Saturday night. Suddenly a Lamborghini drove past. Amazed, they betted that the people in the car had labels on their socks and drank posh coffee and went to masked balls. Sally did the maths and realised that even the VAT on the Lamborghini was more than they paid in mortgage each year. Still, they were happy together and that was what really mattered.

The Elephant’s Trunk:

Adrenaline

Wearing mismatched socks, Arthur prepared fish and chips and a pot of strong coffee to fuel his typically boring day. Suddenly, a gleaming red Lamborghini roared past, breaking every local law and tradition. Arthur raised a cynical eyebrow; ignoring the chaotic scene outside, he dove straight into a complex maths equation to engage his brain. Life could be unpredictable, but numbers never lied. He smiled appreciatively, taking another sip as the engine noise faded away.

Boomcha:

When Maths can’t Fix it

I carried my coffee outside and found the neighbor arguing with his Lamborghini like it had betrayed him. He lifted an eyebrow at me, then blamed the whole scene on a long‑standing tradition of bad luck. I believed him when I saw the chips crushed under his shoe and the mismatched socks. He said he’d tried maths to fix the problem. I said that explained why nothing worked.

  1. Like a good young I do my Yoga early in the morning after getting out of bed then I automatically look up and see what looks like a Spaceship in my backyard and then I go and Tittle-Tattle all of this to my cat and dog and stuffed animals because they’re the only ones who won’t think I’m crazy then to my surprise 😲 the mayor of the town somehow Breeches my locked Bedroom and when she entered the Spaceship took off all that was left was a humongous crater in the backyard.

The spaceship games night passed some time on Starship Enterprse.. 19th century golf attire was traditional breeches while 21st century yoga attire required a more body sculpting legging. Day after tittle tattle revealed that Spock missed the memo.

    Hi Esther,

    Here goes:

We clustered round the spaceship porthole, wings chattering, trying to spot the humankinds in their rituals, wearing ceremonial breeches and cute sunhats to propitiate the great god, Yoga – I told the Leader it wasn’t idle tittle-tattle, after all.

HI Esther,  I havent been with ye for a good while and I want to sign up again for zooms. I am toying with the idea of starting a blog and would love to get a wee jump start listening to and sharing with the rest of the gang. I will renew my membership  and hope to see you soon.. Hope you have a lovely summer,  Michelle   Here is my 38 word story.   Margo pulled on her breeches, as Fred used call them. She’d joined yoga. And afterwards have coffee with tittle -tattle, her widowhood embarrassing. Eye contact avoided.  Her crime? Her sentence – a spaceship of loneliness with no earthly docking

There have been so many security breeches on the spaceship that risking being called a tattle tale, Ensign Jones skipped morning yoga and wrote the Captain a tittle-tattle note naming names. He signed it John Paul Jones.

Listening to you tittle-tattle about your friend Joe’s odd obsessing with being abducted by an alien spaceship during our yoga session turned out to be a bad idea.

I stretched and laughed so hard that split my breeches.

  11. It was Maja’s photo that got me going with these words: https://picturesimperfectblog.com/2026/08/20/male-gossip/ [NB: Maja, the bee is a German children’s book from 1012, still popular because of cartoon TV series based on the novel].

“Did you see Maja doing yoga in her pollen breeches?” The drones were sniggering, spread-eagled on passionflowers that looked like spaceships. Unable to feed themselves without the help of worker bees but engaging in tittle-tattle about them nevertheless.

  22. Hi Esther! Love this challenge! This is what I came up with:

He figured group yoga sessions on a spaceship weren’t ideal. After splitting his breeches right down the middle after executing a perfect Downward Dog pose, the captain knew he’d soon become the target for some intergalactic tittle-tattle.
