As with the other challenges this week, you have two weeks until the next one, so plenty of time to work on your stories. So, can you tell a story in 75 words using the following words in it somewhere:
- COFFEE
- LAMBORGHINI
- EYEBROW
- TRADITION
- CHIPS
- SOCKS
- MATHS
The previous challenge was to write a story in 51 words using the following five words in it somewhere:
- YAWN
- WEATHER
- TOOT
- COOKIES
- NECROMANCER
Here are your excellent stories:
After a long yawn, I accepted cookies from a cheerful necromancer because the weather favored unlikely friendships. Every raven applauded with a triumphant toot, sending frightened villagers laughing instead of fleeing. Dawn arrived quietly, hope replaced fear, and everyone shared breakfast together beneath bright skies forever afterward smiling gratefully home contentedly.
Nicola Daly:
‘Wee hee! I’m alive again!’ Granny screamed and danced a jig.
The necromancer yawned.
‘Have a musical cookie! It’ll revive you.’
The necromancer took a nibble. ‘Why musical?’
‘They make you too-oo-’ Granny’s bottom made a loud ripping sound. She shot into the air and landed on the spinning weathervane. ‘Toot!’
One Day at a Time
Stifling a yawn, Carol ate fresh-baked oatmeal cookies, staring out at the rainy weather. As she listened to the toot of a trumpet in the background, she realized that as bad as things were, she wouldn’t ask the necromancer to tell her the future. She’ll take one day at a time.
Basil, the Bungling Necromancer
Basil was a frightful necromancer, But dreamed of becoming a dark commander, When the weather turned, he performed magical duties, But out popped a ghost with tutti-fruities, Goblins yawned, then enquired with wry looks, 'Have you any cookies instead of spellbooks?' Basil laughed, though his plans went astray- His failures still brighten the day. Murray Clarke: All day long, an ominous purple mist had swirled everywhere - ideal weather for Norman, the necromancer, to coax another dead body back to life. He gave an unexpected 'toot' on his car horn; the corpse's eyes sprung open; it yawned, and uttered the immortal words: "I could murder a cookie!" Fandango: The necromancer stifled a yawn as the weather shifted, wind swirling like restless spirits.
He gave a careless toot on a bone flute, summoning a group of hungry ghosts. He offered cookies, still warm.
The dead accepted, and stuck around, proof that even a necromancer can win friends with baked goods.
Gil’s Chilling Thrill
Never imagining becoming a necromancer, Gil reflexively yawned as he routinely cleared ‘cookies’ from his laptop. Suddenly, an odd “toot” sounded as unsolicited ‘others’ started loading. Each associated with a dead relative!
The weather outside filled with static electricity as he followed them discovering unearthly requests that he couldn’t possibly refuse.
While it was mid morning she let out a great big and noisy yawn that sounded like a toot of a horn and since the weather was rainy she decided to make wedding cake. Cookies, then later that night, she went out on a date with a necromancer which didn’t turn out well so she went back to dating cowboys.
The necromancer stifled a yawn as gloomy weather rattled the windows.
A tiny ghost answered with a cheerful toot, demanding fresh cookies instead of another séance.
Laughing, the wizard opened the oven.
Even the restless spirits agreed warm biscuits tasted far better than haunting lonely castles forever together with grateful smiles.
Rall:
He awoke to the toot of a passing car.
He yawned
Awful weather again.
Life as a necromancer was not all fun and games.
He found it very tiring .
Performing black magic didn’t pay wellInstead of cash they’d give you cookies
Time for a change
Necromancer’s Oversight
A type of evil second-chancer,
he became a necromancer,
nibbling cookies with a yawn
as he resurrected the devil’s spawn,
never considering whether
it was fine or stormy weather.
So, yesterday Beelzebub
showed up dripping at the pub,
for his usual vacation,
minus his evil elation,
fire put out by precipitation.
The Vigil
Torres hadn’t slept in days. Weather sirens wailed outside, unheard. On her desk: a child’s necromancer costume, size six, tags still on. A toy trumpet beside it, tooting when squeezed. She stared until her eyes ached, refusing to yawn, refusing to break. The cookies he’d left sat untouched, poisoned, evidence now.
The old necromancer sat in his high backed overstuffed chair, and let out a loud toot. Accompanied by a huge unexpected yawn, the hopefully temporary flatulence was released. Too many of those “happy” cookies, he admitted to himself. His wife baked the treats whenever rainy weather came. It always boosted clientele.
Dark Magic to Go?
He yawned and clicked “accept cookies”. The necromancer’s website offered a lot of choices even weather disasters and voodoo dolls. Making a living as a black magician was obviously getting harder. They were in the middle of their session when a tooting sound signalled that time was up. Next customer please!
The necromancer checked the weather forecast and yawned when he read more blazing sunshine.
‘We need rain,’ he thought, ‘not enough to flood, but enough for respite from the heat.’
‘Time to bake cookies and tootsie rolls,’ he told his wife, ‘with that little added ingredient.’
It rained the following day.
From dawn to yawn, rain or shine weather, Ned the necromancer would get in his mobile food truck. He’d drive around the neighborhood tooting his horn and playing jaunty music. People flocked into the street to buy his amazing array of cookies. His secret ingredient kept them coming back for more.
Susan Batten:
It was the necromancer’s day off, so we decided to enjoy the good weather and go on a toot instead of attending a séance. According to the cookies on his website (yawn) he would be back for business as usual on Monday. We could leave it. Bob wouldn’t mind, being dead.
Lou by the Sea:
Evil intent
The hot weather and the carbohydrate slump from the excess cookies I ate in the car made me yawn loudly. Evil forces grabbed the wheel. The tree and car collided. A passing lorry gave a loud toot on his horn. Wishing I’d taken more notice of my necromancer consultation last week.
Cookies yawn in the middle of the weather report suggested that she was getting tired and ready to call it a night. As she headed to her bedroom she let out a loud toot feeling embarrassed even though her lover wasn’t around. He was a necromancer busy communicating with the dead.
The weather is so hot, I sought relief in a store. While scoring some cookies, the manager, Todd Toot asked me if I had seen the new Lego necromancer in aisle four. I had to yawn, since besides the heat, there is nothing more tiring than a middle-aged Lego player.
The weary necromancer woke up with a yawn and headed into the kitchen for some magical cookies. On his way, he checked out the weather. It was dismal. He heard the toots of a far off train bellowing down the track. He decided it was good to go back to bed.
NEC-ROMANCE?
A DANCE
A FINAL CHANCE
I’m a necromancer baby
And I’ll haunt you until dawn
I’ll be with you when you bathe tonight
Watching as you yawn
Magic cookies in your bed
We hear the toot of passing trains
Never mind the weather baby
I’ll love you as it rains
iMartist:
Last Day Alive
The weather was calling for blizzard conditions. Lucas and Ashley had been binge watching Necromancer. Ashley said, “You should head home to beat the storm. Lucas ate cookies and tooted quite loudly. Ashley said “Ew You’re so gross”, Lucas yawned and replied, ” But you still love me.” Then he drove off.
Ann Edall-Robson:
Their interest in talking to the departed, fit nicely with exploring old homesteads. His friend and fellow necromancer was picking him up for today’s sunny weather adventure. Stifling a yawn, he finished the last of the cookies, and locked the door as the vehicle pulled up with a loud horn toot.
A necromancer wandered into town just as the weather shifted cold. With a yawn, he asked if anyone had cookies. When a child offered him a tin, he smiled and let out a soft toot of gratitude. Everyone braced for magic—yet all he raised was warmth in their hearts.
Raindance
Bored by the incessant violent weather clawing at the window panes, a weary necromancer stifled a heavy yawn. Before him sat freshly-baked cookies… bizarre offerings laced with spite. He raised an ancient bone trumpet to toot a haunting call, watching skeletons awaken to dance blindly under the shroud of eternal night.
