I’ve always loved the sea and walking along the beach. Though I’ve never lived close to it and don’t often have the opportunity to go. But ever since my first visit – to Bournemouth – I’ve always felt that there’s something special about it. I love the feel of the sand between my toes and the sound of the waves crashing into shore. There’s nothing like the salty smell of the sea and the screech of seagulls as they hunt down someone’s fish and chips. And, of course, the glint of the sun on the water completes the perfect picture.

My first trip to the beach. Note the bucket in the pram, which is bigger than me! It made great sandcastles though…
So your prompt this week is the
BEACH
You can write about what it means to you, or use the prompt to create a backdrop for a story.
I always enjoy seeing what you come up with if the prompt gives you inspiration, but there’s no obligation to share your writing. Here is the work you shared on the last prompt SWEET OR SOUR.
I have heard it said that sugar is as addictive as heroin. Well, I need an intervention!! I try and even eat mostly sugar free candy, but its still sweet! But I love savory too! My preference is cajun and Mexican dishes because I love spicy food. But once I open the door to sugar, I can’t hardly close it again. I just make sure I do the right things to make sure I stay regular and get plenty of sunshine and exercise. Everything in moderation.
I’m having trouble with diabetes because of my love of that sweet stuff called sugar.
I was sad and upset because of a bereavement and found sweets and cakes became my comfort. Instead of the occasional cake I became obsessed with buying myself boxes of chocolates, or sweet pastries or cream cakes almost every day.
Meanwhile I stopped eating as many savory things. I’m not eating enough vegetables and this has impacted my blood chemistry. So the point I want to make is don’t eat sugary stuff to’ excess and try not to get addicted to it. I’m trying to be good now…
It’s really hard for me to pass up anything peanut butter/chocolate, but I prefer dark chocolate. Most other sweets I can live without.
OK, I have a sweet tooth as well because most people have a sweet tooth.
I also think that some sour face bitches should be eating sweet stuff to try and over come their sour disposition, trust me eating sour lollies (candies) do not help.
The go to is sweet over savory every time. Cookies. Preferably harvest cookies and lots of them. Not good for my blood sugar, though.
Savory or sweet can’t be beat
Either taste can be a real treat
Example could be candy shaped like a heart
It’s a little bit sweet and a little bit tart
But salty and spicy might be nice
Take your pick and roll the dice
If it becomes too hard to choose
Eat some of both, you cannot lose
I have a sweet tooth, but not normally so much for chocolate.
I like wine gums, jelly babies, marshmallows, liquorice, fudge, turkish delight and cinder toffee to name just a few.
There is of course the compromise of cheesecake.
But to be honest, it depends on my mood and my sugar levels. I’m type 2 diabetic, currently controlled by diet and doing OK. Provided I’m sensible, I can have more or less what I fancy with no repercussions. I’m checking my sugar levels every day though with the finger prick test and keeping below a count of 7, which according to the leaflet is classed as ‘pre diabetic’.
My body will sometimes crave something sweet, especially if I’m tired or have a headache, then a couple of days later, it’s switched to savoury and cheese and crackers.
I suppose in the grand scheme of things that’s some kind of balance!
Wilfred Leahy:
The doctor said to me you’re diabetic
No more sweet stuff for you
Only veggies and stew
Well I went home sad and blue
When I told my wife
She said dear don’t be blue
I will look after you
And for tea we have stew
I have a propensity to desire sweets. It has been a problem since I was a child and I never outgrew those cravings. When I was in elementary school, the little town we lived nearby had a family owned store. This store, called Fox’s Market, had fresh meats from the town’s slaughterhouse, all sorts of dry goods and canned goods, and, best of all, a 3 foot by 5 foot rack filled with shelves of candy. My mother would give us each a dime to spend on the penny candies. I could get a small paper bag full of candy and gum with that dime, and I agonized over my choices. The woman that ran the store would always grow impatient with me and her granddaughters, two teen-aged girls that worked there, would roll their eyes and snicker together at me. I didn’t care. I was just grateful to have my bag of candy. My mother was just grateful that the act of choosing sweets kept us busy so she could shop. So we all went home happy.
