Detour On The Eternal Road

Today, I’m delighted to be showcasing the latest book in The Eternal Road series by John W. Howell.

Take it away, John:

I am excited to be here with you today, Esther.  There is nothing better than to be in the United Kingdom on a lovely spring day. Also to be with an author of such good short stories, great author help books, and outstanding editor is an honor. Thank you for offering to host me on this stop on the tour. My latest book Detour on the Eternal Road is book three in the Eternal Road Series. Here is the blurb.

Blurb

Sam and James are dragged into another strange assignment when a couple of souls on The Eternal Road drop off the radar. Archangel Michael gives them specific orders to resolve the issue and get Billy Ray Chitwood, the national race car champion, and Dale Earnhardt, his guide, back on the task of finding Billy’s Eternal Home.

Finally, meeting up with Billy Ray and Dale, the foursome finds themselves in the future where World War III has devastated the country. The team discovers the cause of the start of the war and vows to mitigate that circumstance and save the world from devastation. They encounter their old nemesis, Lucifer, who has in mind trading preventing the war in exchange for Sam accepting his offer to be his queen.

Since Lucifer’s offer is a non-starter, Sam and James must overcome Lucifer’s interference and work to change the course of history, or humankind is doomed.

Excerpt

Doc shoves his bottle over near the old guy and raises his hand. One of the barmen comes over, and Doc asks that he get another glass. The barman nods, goes behind the bar, and returns with a tumbler. Doc leans back in his chair. The old man hopes he doesn’t fall over backward.

“Help yourself to a drink and then answer me a question.”

The old man pours a shaky three fingers, takes a sniff of the whiskey, and puts the cork back in the bottle. Before taking a sip, he asks Doc about the question.

“Wyatt told us what you said. How did you manage to get to town when you live ten miles away? Can you explain that?”

The old man lifts his glass as a thank you and takes a sip of the spirit. The familiar burn on his lips follows the liquid down his throat and into his gut. He waits one second for the aged aftertaste to tempt his tongue and smacks his lips in appreciation. “Sorry, sir. I’m afraid I can’t recall how I got to town. Pretty much woke up on that bench with no recollection.”

Doc brings his chair forward. “I find this fascinating and have studied human behavior. Never heard of anyone who has a blackout so severe that what must be about four hours of time disappears completely. You remember anything before coming to town?”

“Can’t say’s I do.”

“How do you know you live ten miles from town?”

“You know, you ask an excellent question.” The old man takes another sip. “I guess I know is all.”
