I wrote a blog post a while ago, hinting that I would soon have some book news regarding a dragon. Well, I thought it about time I enlightened you.
A number of years ago, I wrote a chapter book series for children aged 5-7 years old. There were six books in the series and I was thrilled when a publisher took all six books on. I had a contract and a grand book launch was planned in Ireland. The publisher wanted to get all six books ready to come out, one after the other, so we were going through edits when she went all quiet on me. I didn’t want to pester her; maybe she was ill or there had been a family emergency.
I really didn’t want to think the worst – that the publishing house had folded, but that’s exactly what happened. I was devastated.
So I focused on other work – my tutoring, editing, bringing out my short story collections and workbooks, etc.
But something kept nagging at me and the series refused to go away. So this year, the first in the series, The Secret Dragon, will be released. The books have been updated and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working on them. I’ve also got the most fabulous illustrator, so it’s been great to see the characters come to life.
