Desk Buddies – Albert, The Dinosaur

I don’t know about you, but my writing desk has accumulated all sorts of different momentoes over the years. Each one has meaning and helps me in my writing day. Over the next few weeks, I’ll take you on a tour around my desk and introduce you to my writing buddies. I wouldn’t be able to produce the work I do without them. First up is Albert, the dinosaur:

In the past, my daughter suffered from anxiety and bought some squishy toys to help reduce stress. She gave one to me, so Albert the dinosaur lives on a shelf on my desk. When I’m working on ideas and edits, he comes down from his perch and helps inspire me.

If you have any special writing buddies, and would like them featured here, send a photo and a few words to estherchilton@gmail.com.

  2. Sorry about my previous garbled last comment. Second time lucky!

I was interested to read about your desk writing buddy, Albert the dinosaur.

I haden’t previously thought about desk buddies . However, I do own a paper weight which I inherited from my auntie Cath, who sadly died a few years ago. An oak box from the National Trust shop used to sit on my desk. However, having knocked it off sever times, I thought it wise to keep it on the bookcase in my living room, where it now keeps the chiming clock company.

  4. He’s adorable. My desk is littered with pens, papers, a dictionary and a thesaurus. But no desk buddies.

    1. I got a new desk last year and it has shelves – I have a dictionary and thesaurus on them as well as lots of knick-knacks or ‘tat’ as my partner calls it!

  6. I am quite different, my writing desk is empty except for a keyboard. Nevertheless, I like your dinosaur, it makes me smile. My agent has a little mouse on his desk. This was the first time I saw a little animal on a desk.

    Happy writing

  7. Albert looks like he could do away with anxious feelings. There are no animals on my writing desk. Just chew toys that get rotated while a dogs is with me. There is a Benny bone, yak stick, and this big heavy bacon flavored thing. I do have a clock and pencil holder though. this is a great idea for those that have buddies.

  10. I have a rather ‘posh’ bear on my desk, Esther. He was given to me many years ago. You’ll be able to see from his name why I think he’s posh.

He stays there all year even though he’s Christmas-themed.
