Writing Prompts

This week’s writing prompt is:

Lost

Something has been lost. Perhaps it’s something expensive like a piece of jewellery. Or it may seem worthless – like a letter. But maybe it’s a love letter or a letter from a grandparent who has now died, so it’s precious to the owner of the letter. A person could be lost – in a new city or country. Or a parent might have lost their child while out somewhere. Interpret it how you wish.

Last week’s writing prompt was a photo prompt:

You don’t have to share your work, but I’d love to see what you come up with if the prompt gives you inspiration. This photo inspired Christine Mallaband-Brown to share her work:

The old house looked splendid in the warm daylight. It’s patina of age gleamed gold and silver, while dark sooty patches indicated its closeness to the industrial smoke down in the valley.

Mr Proctor gave a sigh, could he take it on? Death duties were going to be costly, but he would honour the family. It just depended on whether he would get planning permission. It was going to be a great Hogwarts annex.

  1. […] It’s been a while, but I just read one of Esther’s prompts, and it led me to want to post a story I wrote a little while back. I think it would be ideal for her prompt below. If you want to take part, please go and visit her post, here! […]

  2. Okay, so I wrote a short story a while ago, and I think I might just post it, and link to your challenge, as I think it would suit!

  3. A lady of some years had an important appointment coming up and had forgotten where she put the cd disc of her recent MRI and the dr’s report on it. She searched her home, her brother’s home, and back to her home again. She thought she remembered putting it in a safe place she was sure not to forget, yet her husband assured her that he had looked there.
Later on, she and her husband had to go back by their house to bring another load to her brother’s House, and she checked her safe place again…a plastic three drawer container she kept in the cabinet above their bed. Sure enough, after checking the bottom drawer of the three, she found all the necessary documents and the cd. Bingo!! She cried, and her husband said where was it. Right where you thought you’d checked, dear. The lady smirked as she passed him on the way to the car.

      1. Thanks! I wish it wasn’t based on a true story, lol, but at least there was a happy ending!

  4. I lost him in December.
Since then my heart has been empty.
Now I’m alone, the universe seems cold.
Like Pandora box, but with hope gone?
    I have to carry on,
But it won’t be the same,
I’ve lost him, lost his name.
    Lost my heart and soul.
    Gone.
