Author biography
Emily Martin was born in the colourful 1980s and raised in the heart of Surrey, UK. She is proud to still live there along with her husband, raising their own children and Labrador dog.
Emily’s love of story writing was ignited at a young age, as she often sat at an old-fashioned typewriter, conjuring up dramatic stories to add to her made-up newspaper for the family to read. After completing an extensive writing course as an adult, she had more confidence to start writing her own novels.
Why Emily loves writing
For as long as I can remember I have always loved reading and writing, making up stories and jotting them down on our family typewriter. I grew up in a household where reading was very much the norm, and some of my earliest memories are spending time trawling through bookshops with my mother. I’d devour the glossy covers of the latest editions of one of my favourite series or find something written by Judy Blume to giggle at, inhaling that unique fresh new book smell, of which I argue that there is nothing quite like! We would then go on to a café where I would undoubtedly order a huge slice of chocolate fudge cake and an appletiser.
Since then, my love of books has grown, and I find myself being drawn into the fantasy world in which many a novel can take you away. Writing has also given me that escapism, building characters and thinking up dramatic plots and scenarios to place them in. Imagining how they might look, interact, think and even feel. Writing, for me, is a way to express these wild ideas and looking at how people assess their life from a difference perspective to mine. Of course, finishing the story brings a great sense of triumph, knowing what and how things will unfold. It’s an exciting and thrilling process to say the least.
