Let’s not even mention the word lingerie. What seems like a deeply romantic gesture from one side of the equation can easily be, due to a minor miscalculation in sizing, terribly misunderstood as a relationship terminator from the other.

I have heard some women claim that sexy lingerie is for the benefit of the viewer rather than the wearer for whom it has no practical use and can be rather chilly and breezy! The logical conclusion is that, for a man to by his girlfriend or wife such pretty clothing would amount to buying a present for himself.

Yes. The standard justification for such a purchase is “I got this for you”, to which a response of “really? You shouldn’t have”, is rarely deemed satisfactory.
“I got these for you” is actually an abbreviation of, “I got these for you and if you are not immediately overcome with uncontrollable passion at the sight of me, then you’re sleeping on the couch”.
