A few more customs from around the world to make you chuckle:
- In the UK, we place our baby teeth under our pillows when we lose them as children. The tooth fairy then leaves us some money. In Greece, the children are said to throw their baby teeth onto the roofs of their houses, then make a wish. I’m rubbish at throwing, so that wouldn’t have worked for me. Besides, I’ll take the cash anytime!
- In Korea only the names of the dead should be written in red ink. It doesn’t go down well to write the name of a living person in red. I’d better leave my red editing pen at home then.
- In some parts of China, the tradition goes that if a man carries his pregnant wife over hot coals, it’ll be an easier birth. Well, I suppose it’s good to share the pain…
