Writing Magazine are holding a flash fiction competition, with a theme. Here’s what they have to say about it:
‘This May marks 200 years since the coronation of Queen Victoria. Oh and some television show or other is reaching its blood-splattered, dragon-scorched climax. [If only we hadn’t waited the entirety of its run for the next instalment in book form.]
‘Anyway, all of that got us thinking about royals, succession and symbols of rule, so we decided to give you “throne” as the theme for our latest Timely Topic web-exclusive competition. Whether you follow our train of thought or take an entirely different approach, your flash story must touch on a “throne”, literal or figurative, in 500 words or fewer. Needless to say, you won’t have space to spin an epic seven-house saga’.
Prize: The winner can choose between £100, or a critique. The winning story will appear on http://www.writers-online.co.uk
Entry fee: £5
Closing date: 23rd June 2019
