Ebook Or Paperback?

It’s almost been two weeks since the launch of my latest book of short stories. I’ve been surprised at the amount of people who’ve asked me, “Can I get it in paperback?” At the moment, A Walk In The Woods and other short stories is only available as an ebook, but I am bringing it out in paperback in the next few months.

I remember, a short while ago, how we were all told that ebooks would take over and print versions of books would be a thing of the past. But, it seems that we’re not ready to say goodbye to the good old paperback just yet. How about you? I’d love to know whether you’re more of an ebook reader, or if you still prefer a ‘proper’ book. Let me know!

If you’d like to buy a copy of A Walk in the Woods, you can order it through Amazon (UK). For the US, click here.

  1. Got to say… I love my paperbacks but because of space, I am veering more towards ebooks… and they are just so accessible!

  2. Being visually impaired and unable to read print, I find ebooks great as I can listen to them using the text to speech facility on my Amazon Kindle. My Amazon Echo will also voice many Kindle titles, so I can sit in a comfortable chair listening to them. Having said that, I do enjoy traditional (paper) books and have several bookshelves filled with braille books. However “The New Oxford Book of English Verse” (to give just 1 example) runs to 10 volumes in braille, so I don’t own as many books in that format as I would like to. I do also have print books which can be read with a scanner which converts text into speech and I enjoy the feel and smell of both paperback and hardback books. Kevin

      1. What an artist! I had a similar experience with paperbacks. I did finally get mine out in print and they steadily sell, about 10% of what digital does.

e-books almost all the time. I can change between devices and pick up at exactly the same place. I often read with the light off, which is tricky with a paper book. However, some things just work better as paper books: historic maps, educational books and anything else where one flips back and forth between pages.

  10. I am scared to take a device outside of the house in case it is swiped. But I love reading when I am trekking around London, on the bus , on the tube – so it’s paperbacks for me.

  11. I will read an ebook for those books only available in that format, but I prefer to hold a book in my hands.

  13. To buy a book or a Kindle? That is the question. I think there will always be a place in our hearts for a book — whether it be a paperback or a hardback copy. Nothing makes a room look more cosy than a bookshelf lined with colourful books. There is something about the feel of a good book that a Kindle will never match. I have a Kindle too which I mainly use when I go on holiday — less weight in the suitcase than several books! Also cheaper, of course. I have downloaded my copy of ‘A Walk In The Woods” and look forward to reading the short stories whilst sunbathing by the pool in Cyprus later this month. Feedback to follow when I return.
