I Challenge You To…

This week’s challenge is to write a story, limerick or poem on the subject of:

Coffee

Last week’s challenge was to write about dreams. You sent in some great pieces. Here are a few:

Keith Channing was quick off the mark, as always:

I awoke in a wicked cold sweat
I’d dreamt that I’d won a big bet
It wasn’t the winning
That set my head spinning
Twas the knowing that I’d soon forget.

Here are some super limericks from Jason Moody:

Her lips, bright red they did gleam
The most wonderful woman I’d seen
I awoke, thumping heart
As Monday did start
Realising it was all but a dream.

Soaring high in the sky
As Superman passed, we high-fived
I touched the soft clouds
As the wind sung aloud
then awoke with a soul crushing sigh.

Governments weren’t on the take
News was all good, and not fake
No labour, no Tory
A world bathed in glory
Wife farted – then I was awake.

And here’s a thought-provoking poem from Jason:

Imagine a life with no hurt
Not to be judged, for what’s under your shirt.
Imagine a life with no colour
Where we’re all united, and there is no OTHER
Imagine a world with no fear
Where divisions and boundaries just disappear.
Imagine a world where compassion rules all
And morals are not things we must learn at school
Imagine a world with no hate
What a utopia we could create
Imagine a world filled with joy
A bright, hopeful future for both girl and boy.

Imagine.

EDC Writing sent in a lovely poem:

Dreams
the days
we’ve yet
to breathe

Hope
the days
we right
a wrong

Fate
the day
that’s
just begun.

And now a poem from Kevin:

The demure nun
Dreams of fun.
Her sober dress
Gone. His insistent hand
Does command
Pleasure.
She will repent at leisure
And confess.
But oh such sweet delight
Fills her dreams tonight …

And a limerick:

A Labrador sitting alone
Chewed on a very large bone.
Awaking to a loud cry
He pondered on why
He was eating his young mistress Joan …

A huge welcome to Valfish56:

Last night I dreamt of the Azores
Palm trees, clear blue seas, sun-kissed shores
Sadly paradise
Was lost in a trice
Dreams shattered by dear hubby’s snores.

  2. There’s no finer sight to be seen,
In any work-place that I’ve been,
    Forget the staff diner
    And the comfy recliner
Just show me the coffee machine.

  4. Oh coffee.

How your brown elexir doth smooth my soul
You place my grump on temporary parole
You vanquish the zombie that has formed overnight
You disperse the clouds and beckon the light.
From the very first drop you brighten my senses
My mind does a cartwheel and scales tall fences
Pressed to my lips like loves first kiss
You’re hot and delicious – oh you are bliss
The rest of the day I can now cope
You’ve given me teachers breath and a slither of hope
My boss, oh my boss she may do as she please
For I’m guarded, prepared – Izvestia had my coffee.

  5. Izvestia? Read – I’ve. Predictive text, me and you are going to fall out. But I’ve had a cup of coffee, so you have a short – and I mean short – reprieve.

    Good day.

  6. I have never done any of these challenges, but I can’t resist this one…

I feel your heat on my lips, before I even wake.
Your scent lingers, I can taste you in my mind.
Traces of you everywhere, everything I ever needed.

    Coffee.
    How I love you….

I remember back in the day
Coffee came either black or au lait
    Now we’ve choices galore
    Deciding’s a chore
All I want’s a plain cup of café!
