The A-Z Of Writing Ideas – P Is For…

Here is the sixteenth instalment in my weekly writing series. Each week, I give you an idea – whether it’s a magazine to write for, a theme for a short story and/or poem, an idea for an article…Here are the first , second , third , fourth , fifth , sixth , seventh, eighth, ninth,  tenth, eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth instalments in the series.

This week, it’s the letter P’s turn. And P is for playtime. What do you like to do in your spare time? Make your own cards? Play football? Go to the movies? Why not write about it? There are magazines on every type of hobby and activity you can think about. Click on the following link and a huge list of hobby and leisure magazines comes up:

  1. P for Playtime – this is a great idea for wannabe freelance writers. This is how I started. We sail our yacht around the Greek Islands every year, and about six years ago I very hesitantly approached the editor of a Sailing magazine and asked if he would be interested in a piece about one of our sailing trips. He snapped it up, and I soon had a six page spread with my photos published! Since then I’ve had about 20 articles published, and paid for. I absolutely encourage anyone to pitch to a similar magazine about a subject they know. I’ve also had pieces published in a cat magazine about the adventures of our boat cat…..
