A Teeny Tiny Dash Of Flash

As many of you know, one of my passions is flash fiction. But flash fiction comes in all sorts of sizes, whether it’s 500-words, or even 55-words…

DEAD

He was dead. Tears poured down her cheeks. How could he leave her like this? She stared at his handsome face, so full of life and love.

A hand reached out and took hers. She pushed it away. No one could comfort her now.

‘For goodness sake, Sue, it’s only a film,’ her friend said.

  1. Ha! Nice. I’m trying to think of what film it might be, in which the handsome love interest’s face is still visible at the end. Not Titanic. I imagine when I was younger I probably had a similar reaction to the death of Vasquez in Aliens. 😀

  2. Hi Esther – I was reading your book of short stories ‘The Siege’ in a hospital outpatients this afternoon (not me, just the driver, my youngest daughter getting a dodgy shoulder sorted) and had noted how you so often come up with an unexpected ending … just as you have here with ‘Dead’ … as already said ‘Ha! Nice.’ Eric.

  3. Ha. Lovely twist. Didn’t see that coming. Don’t tell anyone but I’m terrible when watching soppy films and have to pretend something’s in my eye!
