Monday Motivations

Yes, it’s Monday again and time to unleash your creativity on the world. Here’s a challenge to get you kick-started.

Write a flash fiction piece of between 50-100 words with the following line in it somewhere:

It was over.

What’s over is up to you – an affair, a friendship, a trip to space, a holiday, a football match, a writing competition, a year…Let your imagination go.

Now, last week’s challenge brought in some simply brilliant entries.

Here was your challenge:

Write a flash fiction piece of between 50-100 words with the following line in it somewhere:

If she didn’t stop doing that soon, he was going to kill her.

Sanfransciscoatheart wrote this super story:

She had said, “five more”. The cuckoo on the wall had chirped twice since. But, this was a matter of life and death. Should it be the Choos or the Loobs, diamonds or emeralds, Chanel or YSL? Thousand combinations were tried and she was still adorning Victoria’s Secrets. Inky pinky pinky had been played a million times. She had gone back and forth a trillion times. He was the quintessential man and if she didn’t stop doing that soon, he was going to kill her.

Now it’s time for the next installment of Rajiv Chopra‘s amazing Mary Jane series:

Damn that Mary Jane, thought Spidey bitterly. “Why does she have to encourage those two little creatures. Always skulking around, talking of Rings, and Dark Lords, and Mountains of Fire. They claim that they saved the world. Pah! That’s me – Spiderman. I do it everyday. Damn her. She encourages those little weasels.

Dark thoughts whirled in his Spider brain. She had to stop loving them so much. If she didn’t stop doing that soon, he was going to kill her.

No! He loved her too much to harm a hair on her head. Those Hobbits, he thought grimly. They die….

Murray Clarke was inspired to write this fun piece:

The noise was driving him insane. Droning on and on and on. He looked down at the blank sheet of paper on the desk in front of him. How was he expected to concentrate on writing Esther’s Monday Motivations piece with all that racket going on?

The incessant sound was slowly getting closer. Louder and louder till he felt as if his brain might burst at anytime. If she didn’t stop doing that soon, he was going to kill her.

Finally, he could stand it no more. “Stop that bloody hoovering, woman,” he yelled at the top of this voice.

  2. Great entries 🙂 It’s been a while since I took part, but I’m in a writing frame of mind and couldn’t resist! Here is my contribution:

Kimberley drew in a deep breath to still her racing heart. In. Out. In. Out. No – not working. She wanted to scream. All she heard was a cacophony of sounds: the ticking clock; a bumblebee outside the window; the steady beep of machinery in an adjoining room; and the murmur of voices outside her door.
Then everything began to slow, as though she was on the periphery looking in. She watched the doctor enter the room, a small smile playing at his lips. “Mrs Denver. It’s good news. Your results are clear.”
She let out a sigh. It was over.

    Thanks for the inspiration.

      1. Awoke to this and posted … a kind of synopsis … 50 to 100 words to come

        Past tense
        Present unwanted
        It was over
        Had it begun?

      3. Esther … something akin to this I may have done before I’m simply not sure so posted as for me fits the ‘it was over’ motivation from you … Eric

‘I’m wide awake, not in the dream, torn between emptiness and this. I can’t lie to myself any more, there’s nothing here for me. My inspiration run dry, there is nothing going on, nothing’s right it seems. I feel cold and exposed to know I’ve never been good enough for you. I can’t turn the clock back, undo past mistakes, can’t make you want me as I do you, make you believe how much I feel. If I stay you’ll tear my heart a little more each day. My fault, to not know, it was over long ago for you.’

  8. Here you are…. I may miss the Thursday one, though…
Now, I need to put them together…

“It was over. Their friendship that had survived several ages, was finished.
‘Damn Frodo’, thought Sam, anger swelling in his heart. ‘Why do I always have to be the last to speak? First Frodo, then that damn Spider, and me! I was the one who finally carried him up that Mountain, and now he has his eyes on Mary Jane…..’

He chewed his lips meditatively, a plan growing in his mind.

‘Mary Jane is mind. Mine….’, he shouted at the wall. ‘She is mine, yes she is. Mine own Precious, she is…’

Nobody was going to steal his beautiful Precious.

  13. She had no idea why today, of all days, she dug out that ancient photo album.

Maybe it was the deep pangs of loneliness threatening to tear through her chest as she paced around the house. She poured herself a drink, turned on a once-important song, and started flipping pages.

She and Dean were so young back then, their eyes locked in burning intensity. Now they barely looked at each other, running mindlessly through the evening routine.

It was over. Yet she laid down next to him to fall asleep, as she would do for the rest of her life.
