Feel the Fear and do it Anyway!
Some of you have read my ‘About Me’ page and been intrigued how an accident changed the course of my life and brought me to writing. So here’s an insight for you:
I was 24-years-old at the time and working in a bank. And I hated it. I was absolutely miserable, but my dad kept telling me it was a good job so I stayed.
Then came the accident. I injured my spine, hips and pelvis. The next year was spent lying out on my bed, in pain, hardly able to move. The doctors and specialists told me, ‘This is it. This is as good as it gets.’
I remember thinking, This can’t be how my life is going to be. I can’t spend the rest of my life lying on my bed.ย
It was soon after that I saw an advert for a distance-learning writing course. I’d always loved writing stories and so began my love affair with writing. Everything seemed to slot into place after that and I also found a private specialist who helped me with my injuries.
I often wonder what would have happened if I hadn’t had that accident. Would I still be at the bank, deeply unhappy? I hope not. I like to think I’d have found my way to writing somehow.
So, my tip to you, if you want to make changes in your life, but are scared and uncertain, is to just do it! Yes, it’s scary. But life is so short. Grab every opportunity you can. Feel the fear and do it anyway!
