Say yes to rejection!
The word of the week on my blog has been ‘rejection’ and how it’s something we all have to cope with if we want to be successful writers. My tip for you, and something which I’ve put into practice over the years, is for each rejection you get, set it aside for a short while, then when you don’t feel quite so hurt by it, read through any helpful reasons or tips the editor gave you (some don’t and just send a standard rejection slip). Take those on board and then work on another piece of work. It doesn’t have to be for the same publication but finish that piece of work and sent it out.
This means that for every rejection you have, there’s at least one other piece out there, in with a chance of publication. If you let a rejection stop you writing, how are you going to achieve that acceptance? The next short story, poem, article, filler, reader’s letter, book idea etc you send out could be the one that’s accepted.
