I hadn’t read a Harlan Coben book for ages and when I was looking for my next read, I realised I had an unread one on my bookshelf. The Match features Wilde, a character from a previous book I’d read. So I thought it about time I reunited myself with him.
The Blurb:
He is known simply as Wilde, the boy from the woods.
Discovered living a feral existence in the Ramapo mountains of New Jersey, he has grown up knowing nothing of his parents, and even less about his own identity.
But when a match on a DNA database puts him on the trail of a close relative, Wilde thinks he might be about to solve the mystery of who he really is.
Only, this relation disappears as quickly as he’s resurfaced.
Undaunted, Wilde continues his research, becoming caught up in a secret community committed to exposing anonymous online trolls.
Then one by one, people start to die. It soon becomes clear that a serial killer is targeting this secret community.
And that the next victim could be Wilde himself . . .
My Review:
I knew I was going to love this book only a few pages in. Harlen is the master of grabbing your attention straight away and then not letting up. I soon found myself amongst other familiar characters, one of whom was Hester Crimstein, a formidable character you don’t mess with. It was like being back with family you hadn’t seen for a while.
I’d enjoyed the first novel featuring Wilde and, in The Match, we learn more about his past, but it’s not straight forward and may not be how it appears. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns and didn’t see the ending coming.
If you’re looking for a pacy read, I recommend The Match.
