Happy Friday! It’s time for my guest writer slot. This week, it gives me great pleasure to welcome back Kim Smyth. She appeared in this slot a few weeks ago. If you missed it, you can read it here.
Now for another of her super poems:
A Shorkie’s Story
Come and listen to a story since it’s all about me
A Shorkie named Whiskey and my family
I live in a house with my mom and dad
No more cat, but a playmate who’s bad
They brought another Shorkie home one day
I soon learned she was here to stay
Bouncy and cute with a quizzical look
She had hold of their hearts, I could tell by the look
Who was this pup Brandy, is she taking my place?
Not at all said my mommy, a smile upon her face.
We’ve brought her home to be a companion for you
Could I really believe that this new tale was true?
She chews on my toys and makes such a mess
She is kind of cute though, I have to confess.
She bites me and fights me, just playing I’m sure
Before I was lonely, could this be the cure?
Since she came we sleep in kennels and not Mommy’s bed
What happened to the sweet life I once had?
When we go places she rides in the back
I still sit up front in the event that I yack
I’ve always been more comfy in Mommy’s lap
She lays on the back seat, taking a nap
I guess I’m still special since I was here first
But she’s still a baby and that’s a real curse
I’ll never be looked at the same way again
I’d been the new dog, the queen of my den!
My life forever changed, the day they brought her here
Now I’ve grown to love her, she’s really kind of dear
We wrestle and play and bark at the street
Daddy shares his food with us, it’s really pretty neat
The groomers just love us and so does our doc
Mommy gets brave and sometimes takes us for a walk
It’s really not bad when I think on it now
I’m having more fun, my life is better somehow
I’m kind of her mommy, I’ve taught her a lot
When she gets rowdy I show her what’s what!
It’s been a few months since she came home that day
Since life has been swell, heck, I guess she can stay!
