Help!

I’m having a few problems with my WordPress account and wonder if anyone can come to the rescue. I can only access my login page by using wp-admin. If I use my password or stored login, I can access my stats page for about a second before it disappears and I’m left with a blank screen.

If I go in via wp-admin, I can set up a blog post and see other bloggers’ comments on my posts. But if I click on ‘reader’ so I can read everyone else’s blog posts, I get a blank screen.

WordPress have suggested I clear my browser cache. Is that the answer? Has anyone else had this happen? Thank you 🤗

  1. Has your WordPress version updated recently Esther? If so make sure all your plugins are up to date also as sometimes this can cause problems.

    1. Thanks, Rachel. How do I do that? I’m not very technically-minded!

      1. in your WordPress admin page, menu on the left hand side go to ‘plugins’ (about 3/4 way down). Then go to ‘installed plugins’. Then you can select them all and Update

    2. or if this doesn’t help, disable all plugins and see if the problem is still there, if it isn’t, reactivate them on by one until the problem appears again, then you know which one is the culprit!

      1. no worries! I used to build WordPress websites for clients back in the day, before I decided to change career. Still help my old clients out now and again and manage my own websites too. So yes I have updated my WordPress version today, then updated the plugins and all seems ok again! Good luck

      3. Click on the updates menu on the left hand side near the top and it will be fairly obvious how to do it on the page that appears. If updates are needed there will usually be a red circle next to the menu with a number in it. It’s good practice to update your site regularly.
who created your website initially? They should be able to help further!

  4. Esther, poor you and it is almost surreal when this happens. My friend has exactly the same problem! I was googling about it and wondered if it could be because her OS system is so out-dated – there is concern if she updates the computer might stall as it is so old. But yes, are you up to date on all you software and good advice about the plugins from Rachel. Wishing you good luck … as for those happiness engineers, they leave me feeling anything but happy!

    1. Thanks, Annika. The only plugin I seem to have is Jetpack, but I can see how to update it or uninstall. Oh, the fun!

esther I have had similar problems too. In my case I could not access my admin dashboard from my site. Also wordpress.com would not open. I cured it by updating the operating software. It actually has a name and it is White Screen of Death lol. The adive from WP was to update but then that caused some other difficulties. Lately, WP has been a pain. I hope you can get it sorted out.

  7. Hi Esther, I’d recommend starting off by clearing your browser cache. I had exactly the same problem with another website the other day (my wifi and home phone provider) and it all worked after I cleared the browser cache. It’s certainly a good starting point.

  9. Sorry if this isn’t helpful but like you I’m not technically minded so when I do achieve something that feels brilliant (Irrespective of whether people have already achieved it!) I find if I cant do something, I resort to the WP forums, they usually have the answer.

    I hope this helps…..🤷🏻‍♀️

  10. What happens if you try to view the home page of anyone else’s blog? Does it go blank?
