Book News – What’s Your Favourite Christmas Story?

There are all sorts of Christmas books in the shops right now, their covers full of snowy scenes and dazzling Christmas lights. I do love a Christmas cover. Do you have a favourite Christmas book? Perhaps it’s something modern or an older story – A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens? The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by E. T. A. Hoffmann? Or The Snowman by Raymond Briggs?

My favourite Christmas story is When Santa Fell to Earth by Cornelia Funke. It’s a children’s book and was bought for my daughter when she was small. I read it to her and fell in love with the tale of Santa’s caravan falling to Earth and Christmas being in danger. Two children, Ben and Charlotte, try to save it, but find themselves up against Gerold Goblynch and his motor-sledge-riding bad Santas. What’s not to like?!

It still sits on my bookshelf and is aired now and again when I want a feel-good read. I finished Dracula a few days ago, so it just might be time for another read…

  1. I’ve never heard of that book!
Wasn’t Dracula awesome? When I saw the modern version with Gary Oldman as Dracula, it blew my mind. I kept comparing it to the book, it was spot on! It is one of my faves, and so is Interview With a Vampire, which inspired me to read a few Anne Rice novels.
