The A – Z Of Writing Ideas – M Is For…

Here is the thirteenth instalment in my weekly writing series. Each week, I give you an idea – whether it’s a magazine to write for, a theme for a short story and/or poem, an idea for an article…Here are the first , second , third , fourth , fifth , sixth , seventh, eighth, ninth,  tenth, eleventh and twelfth instalments in the series.

This week, it’s  the letter M‘s turn. And M is for Mystery.

Who doesn’t love a mystery? There are all sorts of myths and mysteries out there surrounding ‘real’ events and people. You’ll often see them in articles in general interest magazines, newspapers and specialist publications. Why not do a little research and write one yourself?

Or perhaps you’d like to create your own. Ideas for fiction mysteries are everywhere. What about the boarded up house you see when you take your dog for a walk? Have you seen a light flickering in there? Are there any strange noises coming from there? No? Then make some up! Use your imagination as to what’s going on in the house and you’re on your way to a cracking mystery story. Here’s another idea for you – a woman at work goes missing. You’re sent a grainy photo of her in the post, with the words, ‘You’re next’ written on the back. Who is the woman? Who has taken her and why on earth are you next?
