Guest Writer Spot

This week, I’m pleased to welcome a new young talent from India. Gopika N has written a stunning poem. Here’s a little bit about Gopika, in the writer’s own words:

“Myself Gopika.N and I am from Kerala, the southern tip of the largest democracy in the world-India. I am, right now, 17 and am a science student. Though least interested in learning science, I am forced to complete the basic education. I have been writing short poems since my childhood. All the emotions brimming in me is reflected in most of my poems. Besides creating poems, I am also addicted to reading fiction as well as writing articles.”

Now for Gopika’s poem. Enjoy:

AVARICE
Our environs,serenely wrapped
in the lambency that lures
the simple man, his psyche.
He fails to see the sham
he is accustomed to and,
that which buries him in greed.
Nevertheless, million dawns are awaiting,
his gluttony puts him in gloom
that which conquers him.
Shameless and worthless is he,
who grumbles about the scant hardships.
As the world around is lustered,
the man is blind and deaf.
He never perceives the folk,
whose life is cramped;
And then at the perfect instant
when the divine being lets his eyes open,
all that’d survive is the  dark ashes
and the withered flowers of eminence;
simulating nothing but mere bareness.
