Markets For Writers

This week, I’m giving the poets amongst you something to work for:

The Poetry Society’s National Poetry Competition 2014 is up and running. With a first prize of £5000, £2000 for second place, £1000 for third place and seven commendations of £100, it’s definitely worth an entry. There is a fee for each poem entered – £6 for the first poem and then each subsequent poem (must be sent at the same time) will cost you £3.50.

Your poem can be on any theme but it must be no longer than 40 lines, excluding the title.

The closing date for entries is 31st October 2014. The competition has been going since 1978 so if you miss this year, you can always work on a poem for next year’s competition.

Entries are accepted from all over the world and you can enter on-line.

To find out more about the competition and to read past winning entries, go to the website: http://www.poetrysociety.org.uk/content/competitions/npc/
